I've lived a million lives

I guess you could say it's been a few

I've been a soldier

I've been a Father

I've been an a-hole too

I've been a hero

I've been a coward

Depends on your point of view

But overall I've been happy

I'm allowed that small joy too

I've lived a happy life

It's what I wanted all this time

I faced my fears

I've faced my anger

The mirror no longer fears me

Are there things I want to take back

Of course there is more than a few

But because I lived as a man

Those regrets where kept to a few

I've lived a Happy Life

It's the best of lives too

I let go of anger

I embraced Love

I think that you can too

It's been all about how we live. How we decide to live. Letting go of the negative and holding onto the good can change the the view we have of what matters the most.

Beautiful, honest and refreshing poem, Tony. (Thank You)

You are a wise man, Tony. When we take things personally, we often run amuck. We have no control over other people’s behavior or even the outcome of our interactions. I have learned, like you, to look deeper and try to understand why the person is responding in a particular way. With understanding comes acceptance instead of anger or resentment. Happiness comes with focusing on what we have than what we don’t have. No one can predict the future. The one thing I have learned is that I know myself very well… and for that I am very grateful.

"There is no life without regrets, and none without its consolations" - a quote from somewhere...

Beautiful poem, Tony! Thanks for sharing it.

Thank You :)

Will always have things we regret and it's just an unescapable fact of life. The trick is to keep them down to a minimum and that's so easy to do if we remember to treat others as we wish to be treated :)

Thank You :)

I surely hope so as it's how I live mine. I've seen and done things that most can't dream of that where wonderful and some (like living in a War Zone) that can cause nightmares. It's how we deal with it that matters in the end :)

Your poem reminds me of what ....Mr S would say "I'll do my best", he did, always. A goal we should all keep too. :)

and one line that I wish I had wrote..."The mirror no longer fears me". :)

Wisdom comes to use all in many a form but the one form that seems to stick with us all is the one of our favorite school teacher :)

This is so cool and so true Tony. I was nodding yes all the way through. I agree with m ~ the miorror line was my favorite. Packed full in a simple sentence.

Sorry I'm late. Didn't find this till I went to the GNW page:)

What's the word I'm looking for? Moon? No. June? No. Boon? No. Ah. Now I know. Swoon. That's it. That's what you make me do. Swoon.

Thank you, Tony. I've said it before and I'll say it again here. If everyone had your wonderful nature, your generosity of spirit, your love of life, the gleam in your eye, your quick wit and your ability to look past the outward and see the beauty within ... poof ... no more wars.
