Many feared dead after Israeli strikes in Gaza

Gee . . . let me think about this. If I don't have fanatics shooting rockets into Israel, I don't get any retaliation attacks and live somewhat in peace. If I continue to fire rockets into and onto Israel, they retaliate at the provocation and I suffer more damage to life and property.  Do I fire more rockets? Or, do I ask for more retaliation?

How smart do you think these Gazans might be? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out! Stop firing the damn rockets!

The Palestinians were shooting rockets into Israel, not rocks, so yes if you were shooting rockets at Israel would say it was okay for Israel to shoot a missile up you kazoo in retaliation.

With all the fighting they are doing nothing has been solved. Both sides live in fear everyday of a bombing. That's some way of living. We are all only renting a short  time on this earth. It seems like a waste of time fighting all the time. If there were a God he isn't a very good parent for allowing his children to fight and kill each other. I hope one day they get a group from each side who think outside the box. People who come up with different idea's that would benifit both sides.

Leah and Mike: You should both try to find a history book (something you obviously never read in high school) and read about what it was that the Nazis did, and then consider what the middle east would look like today if Israel used the concepts that they were shown in the early 40's by Germany.

Why no talk of the land that was stolden from the people of East Prussia? In the attack that stold the East Prussian land refugee columns were straffed from the air. Many many were killed, yet probably many reading this will have no idea of who the East Prussians are even tho the taking of East Prussia occured at almost the same year (1945) as the establishment of Israel (1948).

Why are the Arabs not arguing that the occupiers of Palistine and East Prussia should leave.

If the occupation of East Prussia is ok then what is wrong with the present location of Israel?

The Israelis withdrew from Gaza on September 12, 2005. They hoped that allowing the Palestinians to rule themselves would lead to peace. Instead, the Palestinians have been firing rockets into Israeli border towns daily, repeatedly stated their desire to wipe Israel off the map and have ignored repeated Israeli warnings to cease fire or expect a military response.

I don't know of any other nation which would not respond to daily attacks on its civilians from a neighboring land, unless it wanted to commit suicide. The Israelis don't appear to want to commit suicide. How can you blame them?

Israel just made the world a little more unsafe.  Those bombs that fell have "Made in America" on them.  Hate breeds hate.

I wonder why we don't see a return to the days of UN peace keepers?  Plop some 3rd party military in between the two of them and prevent either side from attacking the other.  Then proceed to enforcing real negotiations -- not the kind where Israel starts out by disallowing certain topics to even be discussed.

Dissent into hell, the nation of Israel was established by the United Nations, not the United States.  A good way to sort this out.  If the Palestinians renounced aggression, what would happen?  Gee, they just might have to go to the negotiating table and settle their differences.  If the Israelis were to unilaterally to renounce aggression, what would happen?  Huge massacre and extermination of Israel and it's people.  With Hamas in existence and in power, with it's avowed goal of destruction of Israel and it's people, what are the two sides going to talk about?  Hey Palestinians, we'll give you the West Bank if you'll only murder half of our population.  My own personal opinion after watching this stupidity for the last 40+ years, is that I've seen the Israelis doing a hell of a lot of giving, and the various and sundry (emphasis on sundry) Palestinian factions doing all of the taking, and rarely even slackening in their aggression.  It amazes me that Israel hasn't just said to hell with this death of a thousand cuts, and mounted an operation against all Palestinian enclaves that would make the '67 war look like a Sunday bake sale, including control and command centers in neighboring countries.  Especially those known to be funding and orchestrating their aggression.  When you are fighting annihilation, touchy-feely goes out the window.

You have to remember, most Palestinian leaders do not want peace because most Palestinian leaders are not politicians, but "militant" or "terrorist" leaders (depending on your slant).  Once peace breaks out, average Palestinians are going to start demanding results and accountability, especially for the rampant corruption.

So it is in their best interest to keep fighting since they know once there is peace, their positions of power will be seriously threatened.

I hope the whole region goes nuclear and millions die. Then after the dust settles and a few months go by, and Jesus STILL hasn't returned we can proclaim all the Abrahamic religions and milenialist views to be the falsehoods they are, send the fundies packing, and start dealing with the situation logically. The only people who benefit from all the turmoil over there are the people who sell weapons to either side. Must we go another century doing the same old things and expecting different results? How the hell do rockets get into Gaza anyway? Who is supplying them? Why doesn't Israel go after the SOURCE? If there is any reason for the US to develop alternative energy it is so Israel can do what it needs to without us telling them not to rock the oil cart-el. I'm sick of hearing about this region and I'm really sick of all the Bible thumpers predicting the second coming every time someone sneezes over there as it is so unproductive.

cgr: Can't you see that what Ghandi was trying to point out was that just because it was an idea based on a religon, you shouldn't necessarily follow it without some of your own original thought process applied to the situation. I can see though that original thought is still severly lacking in many people, even today.

About time Israel retaliated against the Hamas rocket attacks.  Regret innocent people caught in the middle.  Enough is enough!

Update your story and this Israeli arrogance: more than 170 killed so far!! 170 Palestinians=1 Israelis. Rockets sent to southern Israel are called " bomarding" while this is merely called "IDF strike". The Jewish-controlled media considers us Americans gullibles and fools. First of all the people caught clapping and jumping for joy at the fall of the towers on 9 11 were Mousad. All of the young Jewish "art students" selling toys and foot scrubs in malls around the country were Mousad agents, who miraculously disappeared after 9 11.
