Many feared dead after Israeli strikes in Gaza

Israel's air force fired about 30 missiles at targets in the Gaza Strip, destroying several Hamas compounds and killing at least 40 people, a Hamas police spokesman said, according to Reuters.

As an addendum, I meant that I agree with Snappa's comments regarding 9/11/2001.  Aside from that, I don't dispute his istory lesson on the Roman occupation of Jerusalem, etc.

I just don't see any consistency. I've had a post deleted cos I referred to certian republicans as Jack asses. Yet, I've see all types of racial comments on newsvine that were never deleted

Simple each moderator is responsible for the column they seed. If you make a direct attack on someone else posting in the article you break the rules. You break the rules then I delete. You want to call the person the story is about a jackass that's fine by me because your not breaking the rules but expressing your opinion of the person in the story.

Simple as pie agree to disagree with fellow posters and your comment stays no matter how moronic it might be. Start throwing insults at posters and kiss it goodbye.

I don't understand how any of you that either support the Palestinians or are railing on Israel for fighting back get your point of view.  The Arabs have always stated that their goal is to wipe out Israel.  Egypt and others saw the error of their ways a while back, after trying one too many times and getting their butts kicked.

Likud and Israel are not the aggressors here, and never have been.  All of the violence in the region that involves Israel has been started by someone other than the Israelis.

As far as the civilians go, Hamas and other terrorist organizations deliberately place civilians in harm's way so that either Israel won't strike, or Hamas gets a world-wide news bite about how the Israelis attacked civilians. That makes it a no-win situation for the Israelis.

The fact that security forces' camps were targeted says more about the corruption of the security forces than anything else.  Israel warned for quite some time that they would attack unless the civilians convinced the occupying forces to cease and desist.  If the security forces were doing their jobs (keeping the peace), no attack would have been mounted.   Or, maybe, they WERE doing their jobs, guarding Hamas forces while they committed attempted murder of Israeli citizens and imposing their terror tactics on innocent people.

As long as the Palestinians and others harbor the terrorists, they cannot be called innocents.

Having said all that, I hate that the violence continues and that children are dying.  I wish it were different.  But then I read about the man who said "...may Israel burn", and it turns my stomach.

Tony, while I respect your right to have and speak your opinions, I have to disagree with a number of things you said.  I think I made most of those clear above.  And you're right about Canada and Mexico being too smart to attack us in any way (not that they'd want to anyhow), but what can I infer from that comment about the Palestinians - that they AREN'T smart?

I think most of this would be moot if the world didn't do its best to suppress the Israeli state.  Maybe Israel could have ended this garbage in 1972.

Israel gave the Palestinians the land they now have because they were basically forced to by pressure from the rest of the world.  I believe they hoped (against all hope and thousands of years' experience) that this would assist the search for regional peace.  So the Palestinians got their land, and now they use it as a base for terror, which is what we were all warned would happen.

Why is the majority of the world so blind about all of this?

People only read what is placed in front of them. Liberal editors attempt to form liberal opinions under the guise of "sparking debate" however they ignore the reality that the public is not filled with intellectuals who enjoy seeking opinions other than their own.

The misery in the region needs to be stopped. No one will argue that. Rather than apply a final solution there has been a vain attempt to please the uninformed by suffering until the case is made that one party to the violence is determined to be guilty. The old ploy of pointing fingers always comes into play and causes people to lose sight of the fact that Hamas is not a child welfare organization and they have stooped to brainwashing babes to perpetuate the bloodletting. That fact points directly toward guilt and there can be no question that youth reared under those circumstances are incapable of living in peace. It is too bad they will die with as much blood as they can let but it is time to end the cycle of breeding butchers and begin the rearing of innocents in peace.

In 1913 Great Britain exiled much of the Jews from their island and sent them to Palestine where they were welcomed by the majority, the Palestinians.  It was after WWII that Europe and the West carved Palestine up for the Jews.  Jews were the minority ethnic group but with the assistance of the U.S. and Europe they had enough weaponry to attack the Palestinians and take more land.  This is why many people want a two state solution at the previous 1967 borders; the borders set down before Israel became such land mongers.

I know some would like to hate the Palestinians just because they are Arab.  I know some think we should side with Israel no matter the errors in that logic because of old guilt in our delayed entry into WWII and the genocide of the Jews.  However, the Palestinians were not contributors to that genocide and there were far more people killed in other groups than the Jews (i.e. the slaughter of peasants in Russia by Stalin, who we buddied up to).  Plus, in the last Palestinian elections held (which were ruled to be fair and legal elections by the international community) placed Hamas in charge of most areas of Palestine's government.  Within a week of these elections, Israel had arrested several elected officials on the grounds that they belonged to Hamas.  You can't promote free and fair elections and then cry and arrest people because you do not like who was elected.

And as for land grabbing and swaping that occured over hundreds of years ago, Americans are more occupied with that than the Palestinians; they are more concerned over the injustice of land splitting after WWII, the continued building of settlements, the treatment of the Palestinians living in Israel who are treated as less than citizens, the built roads that only Israelis are allowed to travel, and the cutting off of medical, water, electrical, food, and sanitary assistance.

FYI - Hamas, when they were placed in power by the elections, agreed to the two-state solution along the 1967 borders; Israel refused.

        Barber

Didn't mean for that to come of that way because I really due blame both sides for whats happening over there at this point. I also don't want to come off as the only one with a valid opinion. I've said what I wanted and to be blunt if they don't pull there heads out and learn that killing isn't the answer then we may as well right them both off. By the time they get through killing each other the only life left in the area will be carrion eaters (one giant buffet for beatles, scorpions, snakes, rats, flies, and anything else that likes rotten meat). Nothing but a wasteland and for what? Land, religion, money, or some self centered notion that because of there belief it makes them better than anyone else?

I'm sorry but every person alive, dead, or yet to be born on this planet bleeds red. Pure chance determines where your born and your belief system is installed by the people who raise you. All life is a gift and I'm pissed off with anyone that would waste it. I'm intolerant of those that can't understand that there feelings match those of the same ones there trying to kill. The same person I have to shoot during war is the same person if I meet in peace would be at my house with there family for dinner.

The things that seperate us have to be put aside. The teachings of hate, rascism, and fear have no place in a world that wishes to survive. Learn from the past but move to the future. Accept differences in all it's forms before we all have to kiss are butts goodbye. It's Winter here in the United States lets not move to a Nuclear Winter for the planet because these so called diiferences that don't mean a damn have colored the one thing that matters. WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND THE SMARTEST ANIMAL ON THE PLANET IS ALSO THE ONLY ONE THAT KILLS FOR REASONS OTHER THAN FOOD AND THAT CANCELS OUT TRULY BEING THE SMARTEST BECAUSE ANY IDIOT CAN KILL.

to The Barber of Civility 2

I am not sure we would of heard Tony at all if it was not for IDF action. The guy would not even bother mentioning in his article daily atrocities Israel persevered through.

On one hand I can understand. Our very own United States State Department was silent on the issue until IDF action. So, why should a journalist with employment totally dependent on being in line with his news – paper position run way ahead of the entire train of official political machine of his own country.

On the other hand his article blacked out any mentioning of daily atrocities against Israel. And if you look throughout the forum he would not even gratify people calling out this issue with a single word of response. Let me point out that he went out of his ways to talk to folks calling him names. So, you can not dispose of it by mere personal trait of being laconic.

While I am not his customer I can not miss that where he is silent Israel perseveres through daily atrocities and death.

The only person wielding high diplomatic office to speak forcefully on the eve of Christmas regarding 70 Grad rockets fallen on Israel in just 24 hours calling it atrocities against civilian population was UN Secretary General Bi Ki Moon. It is quite remarkable that the only reason we know about it is Arab press, nailing him as “Israeli accomplice” No thanks goes to Tony and his customer. Was it left to our moderator, that part of the world concerns would be where some of the less abridged posters placed Israel on this forum – dead.

            Miron

You are mistaken on more than 1 account. First off I seeded the link to Newsvine and I'm not the author. I found the story on line and felt that this would warrant discussion. The last thing is you haven't paid attention to anything I've posted or you would have figured out I'm pissed with both sides and I don't take sides when both are clearly in the wrong. My requirements after posting is simply to keep others from violating this sites COH. This is done on my own time as I do not get paid for this.

It's funny but your not the first to assume and you may not be the last. Why is it funny to me? Simple people like you making assumptions are the same ones that seem to think one side killing the other is OK. You assume your opinion has more importance when in reality it has less and what makes it less important is you promote continued misunderstanding without aknowledging or checking your facts.

            Have a nice day

We will see if Hamas , the revenge of biggots, will finally be destroyed. After sixty years of trying to find a solution it appears the Israelis will not offer to die or capitulate to please the Palestinian radicals. That disturbs some people but if killing those who are sworn to seek your death is wrong then those who oppose killing as a matter of survival should be exposed for the ignorant fools they are. Perpetuating violence by accepting the violent is unacceptable. Be done with them quickly and completely. Allow no one to profit from making sales of weaponry to people who teach children to simply kill for the pleasure of a god.

The problem is far greater than Hamas. The whole of the Arab world would like to see Isreal disappear. Isreal might be able to destroy Hamas eventually, but the bigger picture is the Arab world. Isreal has no alternative but to negotiate peace from their relative strength. The Arab world is too big for Isreal to defeat.

The problem is when there is hope the biggoted will have legitimacy. The entire Arab world is not biggoted. Sure there are remote areas and places where biggots openly teach however they are growing smaller in number as education spreads.

The Arabs are not the problem, it is the Persians (Iranians) who are armed to the teeth and looking for a fight. They play a mean shell game too.

Eric, yes maybe I lumped every Arab under the same brush. There are Arabs who don't want the destruction of Isreal although the Arab world tried in the 7-day war, I think. I suppose, I was meaning history can repeat itself, if allowed.

                      Arabs, Iranians, .......

There is Iran that is independent from U.S. capitulation and strong enough to stand up for the rights of Palestinians and other subjugated people.

Then there are Arab states, almost all of them client states of U.S. and in order to preserve themselves in power, they have compromised their people for the Americans the most outstanding among them are Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. All absolute and brutal dictatorship and allies of the U.S.

Amir - Are you telling us that Iran and other so called independent Muslim states are not brutal barbaric despotic dictatorships. Please name for me one Muslim country (out of 52 or 53) that is not totally dysfunctional, that does not have a despotic dictatorship. that has a democratic government, that allows it's people to be free, That has a literacy rate over 25%, that allows women full equal rights including the right to be educated. That does not execute gays and adulterers. If not for oil they would look like they were still in the stone age & the ones that have no oil are still in the stone age, the rest are in the bronze age. It is the Muslim religion that has held back all these countries and kept them among the most backward impoverished underachieving uneducated countries in the world. Europe didn't begin to progress until they threw off the shackles of the Catholic church. It's time for the Muslim world to relegate their religion to a place of much reduced power and influence.

                          Snappa -

I guess you have never been to Israel.  While it's true it's in the middle of a desert, the Israelis have turned quite a bit of it into viable farmland and forest.  You can see a huge difference in the color of the land between the areas that the Jews inhabit and those of the Arabs.  Some of the most succulent fruits and nuts (pistachios and watermelons from Israel are most exquisite) are grown by Jews in that desert.  And many thousands of acres have been turned into forest.  Many of the hills in Jerusalem are green.

The best the Arab peoples seem to do is produce olives (and ONLY olives).  Those trees grow ONLY in the desert.  And the trees are hundreds of years old, so they really aren't contributing anything new to the region in that regard.  If the non-Jewish Israelis wanted to learn, they could have a good life just turning the desert into farmable land.

Amir, the Palestinians have been given Billions by the US and Europeans, most of it stolen by their crooked thieving terrorist leaders like Araft who left his wife $20 Billion after he died. She lives in a $25 Million condo in Paris while Arafat stole all the money from his "beloved Palestinians". The Palestinians could have had a good life and peace at any time but they reject peace. They'd rather destroy Israel than live in peace. If there was peace which Israel wants the Palestinians could have a good life with plenty of foreign and Israeli investment, jobs and a modern affluent lifestyle. They're not ready to become civilized and join the 21 st Century! They'd rather be terrorists killing even their own Muslims who disagree with the extremists.

Israel should have continued in with 100 more air strikes and Infantry. We know why the Palestinians fire rockets into Israel and we know why Israel responds but Israel tries to hit the Hamas/Fatah "Military" rocket teams while the Hamas/Fatah shoot to kill anything and everything regardless, man, woman, child. "TERROR" works. Now let the Palestinians live that life and be afraid to stay inside their house or Military compound while death rains down on them from above.

Most of you will post here that you know how it is to face this but you have never been in harms way and never will until the Terrorists come again to our land and "they will". Israel warned and warned again but to no avail. Now the Palestinians must pay the price. Call me what you will but I only speak the "TRUTH". Most of you who post here post from your heart and I understand this but not from the knowledge of the trouble that has been the history of this area for thousands of years. Be thankful you live here and not there. Be thankful you can post here without fear of being beheaded for what you say.....Happy Holidays fron a U.S.War Vet.

These so called brave warriors and freedom fighters (from the so called protesters like Cindy Sheehan) killed my friend's son.His offense,as a Corpsman he was doing his job, trying to save someone's life. That was probably what tipped me over the edge as I am currently on Active Duty deployed to Iraq.As for Cindy Sheehan I feel for her loss but when she mentioned Israel in one of her tirades she crossed the line and I'm glad the press have ignored her pretty much since.Losing a child is a terrible thing but to side with the cowards who took his life?I don't get it.

That poor man, who lost his son. I have a son, who could have been in a similar situation. I understand how terrible this situation might have been for me, and might still be, and for others. But this man, not for one second, has any remorse about the little Isreali girl killed by one of his rockets.

Are these two men's sons killed in Iraq or fighting for israe?  If in Israel, they had no business fighting FOR a foreign country. If this happened in Iraq, why are they changing the subject from Israeli bombing of Palestinians to Iraq?

By the way, Cindy Sheehan is a patriotic Amerian who protested the wrong, interventionist, hypocratic policy based on lies that has led to the death not of just (probably) these two "sons" but over 4000 other young men and women.

Hamas makes the rules for war when it reigns rockets down on Israeli civilian populations. Israel should abide by the same rules. There are no civilians being killed only Hamas terrorists and their supporters.

Your statement makes no sense.  There IS logic on the Israeli side.  They want to live on the land they were given by England.  They would like to do so peacefully, but their neighbors won't allow it.  They haven't started a fight since 1948, unless you just want to remain blind to the machinations of the Arab nations in all that time.  If you discount all the violence by those opposed to Israel's existence, then you are, of course, correct.  But that would also make you blind to the truth.

Go back and read your history.  You will see that the "logic" of the non-Israelis is to wipe out the Jews just for hate's sake.  The Jews just want to live their lives on their own land and make it the best they can.  I know there is hate on the side of the Jews, too, but it isn't because of some need to wipe out their neighbors.  It's because their neighbors have never given them anything more than terrorism and violence.

It's really easy to have an opinion about something you have never seen or experienced.  Go spend some time over there and see what it's really like.  It will be eye-opening for you.

Well if you are talking to me and I am not sure you are, I was there, Protecting Israel from SCUD attacks in 1991. Again, what did Israel do to cause Iraq to shoot these unguided Terror weapons into ISRAEL???? I went back in 2005. I have seen first hand the hate that is on both sides of the fence. I saw a Palestinian who was burned in a stove fire while using gas instead of Kero fuel and it blew up on her. The Jews were going to treat her in the their Burn Hospital but when this person was transported in the back of a pickup to the Israel side of the fence, the Army searched her and found a "BOMB BELT" under her sheets. A nice present for the JEWS from their Palestinian neighbors for helping this poor victim. Look it up, I saw it happen. This is what they deal with every day.

Somebody said something about illegal occupation of the land...yup that'll be the muslims and their kind taking up the land of Cannan (and surrounding areas) which was promised to the Jews by the almighty. If your house is over run with bugs you must smoke them out... end of story. I do not support violence or evil, but lets not forget that self defense is allowable. Let Israel defend itself and let those who love God support them, let Israel enemies be kicked out to the desert where they belong. In the meantime I will continue to pray for the conversion of souls so that all may come to know the Love and Peace of the Lord of lords.

While I certainly do not take the side of the Palestinians in this altercation, Lamb, your post is a puzzle. How can you, in one sentence, call the residents of the Gaza strip vermin which must be exterminated... and then offer the the "Love and Peace" of whatever lord you serve in the very next breath?

Can you not see that it is exactly religious attitudes such as yours that have led to this, as well as most other, terrible conflicts? I truly wish religion WAS the opiate of the masses... then you would all be too stoned to do much harm. Meanwhile, keep your religion... I will, instead, follow God.

Funny, I do not practice religion, I read the Bible and follow God also. I am talking about them (on both sides) feeling the inner peace and love that only Christ can offer, I am sure that both sides have a few motivated by hate and the flesh and not the right thing; however, that land does belong to Israel, they have the right to fight the occupants. The end.

Lamb you and others posters that make this point ignore the opinion of many Orthodox Rabbis.  There are many Jewish scholars who are in fact anti-Zionist on the basis that Jewish scriptures do not support the idea that a Jewish state ought to exist currently.

Don't you love how the American press words things?  "120 feared dead..."  The whole point of a military action is to kill people and destroy things.  Of course you have the ol' "women frantically looked for their children" portion of the report.  It's amazing how these trouble making Muslims are shocked and grief stricken when their children are dead after they've repeatedly shot rockets into a sovereign country with a state of the art military force.  What did they think was going to happen?   Then the press has to put its opinion in:

Israel has targeted Gaza in the past, but the number of simultaneous attacks was unprecedented.

Maybe they are just a little sick of this crap, don't you think?  Here you have your neighbor lobbing bombs onto your property trying to kill you and the rest of the neighborhood is telling YOU to have RESTRAINT!  After decades of this, I think Israel has shown plenty of restraint by not leveling them with a couple of nukes!!!  I'll tell you right now, that's about the only thing I can think of that will calm these fools down!

I'll tell you something else.  We are in a world war right now and it's a war against evil... Islam!  They will not stop until our way of life is obliterated!  We cannot make deals with them.  We cannot trust them.  We cannot reason with them!  If we continue to postpone dealing with them, they will win.

                                                CGR, you are very right.

Islamic radicals are evil indeed. They fail to see the truth about their religion and thrive on hate and anger. What kind of life is that? When they are done with the infidels they will turn against their women. They already treat them like manure.

I highly recommend a documentary named "Obsession" you will see what they are about and what they teach their innocent children. They poison their minds and crush their spirits. If you thought Hitler was bad think again, these guys are worse...much worse.

If people simply read the Fatwas they live under then this crap about a being peaceful would be exposed. In reality they are obliged to kill or jihad in order to spread Islam.

For the people that are really making the decisions in these things it is really all about the money. Just money. Not religon. Not about grandpa's land. Not  holidays. Just money. Simple as that.

Yes, Israel occupies land once owned by the Palestinian then again so does other Countries and the Palestinian do not attack them, why because they are of the Muslim faith.

Leroy: Religon is just the face of the reality. It is about the money that Hamas has control of. The people that teach hate do so from both sides. It is the money that drives Muhllahs to teach hate so blood continues to be shed. With that they generate sympathy for a cause. With that they recieve donations that can and do become millions. That is what they are really after. Every war that has ever been fought. Thats EVERY war. has been about gold. Nothing else. If you get past the twisted reasoning and public displays to the heart of it all, it's nothing more than gold ie. money that is at the heart of all of it. For over 3000 years. Just gold.

You just got done telling us your Mom hates the Palestinians and you love them.  Look, you can't just tell someone who wants you dead that you love them and everything will be all right.  This is pie in the sky thinking.  Israel has held their hand out time and time again to the Palestinians and just gotten it bit.  Your mom knows this.  Israel is defending herself.  There comes a point where you have to take sides.  There is evil in the world.  You can't wish it away by buying the world a Coke!

I don't live in an area where many want me dead, but I have been in such an environment and found it easy to hate back to survive.

I think your getting too personal in your view of the situation here.  Israel is a nation with elected leaders who are responsible for the safety and security of its people.  The Palestinians are sending rockets into Israel.  In order to stop this from going any further, the Israelis have a right and duty to respond.  Can you, at least, see that?

Israel does not have the ability to control what the Palestinians are teaching their children, but they do have the ability to stop them from carrying out their beliefs.

I just don't get it. If Israel is the true home of "God's chosen people", why doesn't God make peace for Isrealis in that land? Why doesn't God prevent rockets from landing in Israel? If Jews are "God's chosen people", why didn't God prevent the Holocaust? If Jews are "God's chosen people", why does he allow the world press to put Israel in a bad light time and time again? If Jews are "God's chosen people", why didn't He protect all those Jewish charities that suffered as a result of Madoff? Serioulsy, I think we need to keep "God" out of it all, then true peace can be acheived in Israel. God loves everyone, not just Jews or Palestinians. I think God wants peace. Don't you?

Jews and Arabs are half-brothers.  Abraham had a son, Isaac, by his wife Sarah who was barren, but whom God promised a son.  The Jews are descendants of their offspring and rightful heirs of Israel.  Abraham also had a son by Sarah's maidservant, an Egyptian named Hagar.  Hagar's son was Ishmael.  Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael.  They claim to be the rightful heirs through their father Abraham.  The problem is that they are illegitimate offspring and therefore have no birthright to Abraham's inheritance.

And, no, we didn't invade Iraq for the oil.  We haven't taken a drop of oil from Iraq.

On the other hand what would happen if about 500 New Hampshire residents got all their money together, got some construction equipment and building materials. And then traveled about 5-10 miles inside Canada, put up a chainlink fence around some unused forest land; and raised an American flag and started to build a city there, and claimed it was part of the United States now because we are here and you weren't using this land for anything anyways. It's ours now.

Both sides have serious issues about many diffrent things. As far as this issue goes, It rest's squarly with Hamas. But they aren't going to do anything about it. In fact they are going to use it to raise more money through donations for the poor Palestinian peoples. That is where this one has it's base. Hamas dosen't care about the Palestinians, just the millions of dollars they are in contol of.

We have armed and funded Israel.  They behave like Nazi's.  The Palestinians fight back with what they have.  If we did it, it would be called guerrilla warfare.  We would not let Israel do this to us, why do we enable them to do it to someone else?

It is time for Americans to stop swallowing what our government -- many of whom are Jews -- tell us to believe, and research the facts.  Americans don't believe in what Israel has done.  If Americans knew the facts, all hell would break loose.

Take back our values.  Take back America.  Demand our politicians behave according to our AMERICAN -- not JEWISH -- values.

That's the point; The jews are stealing all the Palestinian land, they've refused to accept that Hamas is the DEMOCRATICALLY elected government there, unlike Fatah, which is an American/ Israeli puppet government. The Israeli/American position seems to be to put all the Palestinians into one big ghetto, untill they disappear, something that was done previously in history, and not deal with the UN resolutions time and again declaring Israel the aggressor in this situation, and demanding that the ongoing theft of Palestinian land be returned to Palestinians, and further settling of this stolen land be returned to the Palestinians, as declared by the United Nations.. Long ago, I was very sympathetic to the Jewish cause. Not anymore, they' ve become the second biggest terrorist state, second only to the USA. I believe most inteligent people would recognize the fact that Israel is the USA's outpost for expansion into the oil rich Arab lands. That's why the spend BILLIONS on supporting Israel. My opinion of course.

                                                                            {"commentId":4565188,"threadId":"454192","contentId":"2249768","authorDomain":"denis1942"}

Then the Arab proceeded to commit genocide and ethnic cleansing because they oonly wanted an all Arab state called Arabaeli would you be okay with it Bobknob? Then they proceed to humiliate and torture for 60 years so you would just leave your own state because you can't take it anymore would that work you bobknob? Are you starting to get the feel of what is happening over there bobknob?

                                                                                          Enough said for now bobknob.

I wonder why they all hate us? Couldn't have anything to do with all the lost wars we have started or entered.

Americas backing of the Israeli terror state has created more killing, wars, and hate for us than anything any terrorist group could put ever dream up or imagined bobknob. I will leave it at that before I go off on stuff thats way over your head.

Maybe most of you did not realize he was not only talking about the events which I hear are happening some 60 km from here; he possibly also meant this very discussion in which no opinions are exchanged, only vented and for sure no opinions are changed.

And you are wondering why people here are tossing bombs at each other. Oh, the superiority of you all!!

Cynisism aside, what would you want us to do? Shrivel up and die? Sorry, we will not accomodate you on that point. Ever since I came to live here, in the wake of the hope left by Sadat's visit, I have seen the same Greek chorus of Israel bashers and Israel lovers get almost everything wrong. I would not base the right of Israel to exist on 2000+ years old history, nor would I seek any "fair retaliation" if there were any option. The problem is that there are no options as there is no rulebook and no one to discuss the future with.

We have some extremists on our side too, I admit, but they are a minority and they do not run the country, in spite of all that some of you may think. The misfortune of the Palestinians is that their extremists do run the country. They do so because the (truly) poor Palestinians think the odds of dodging an Israeli bomb are better than those of dodging a Hamas bullet if they ever were to speak out. And that, my worrying friends is maybe the only point where we are better. We do not shoot our own except in some (tragic and misguided) instances.

At the beginning of the state of Israel, a boat running arms for the "Etzel" movement (the Altalena) was sunk by the "Haganah" in spite of the urgent need for arms in the nascent Jewish state, which was being attacked on all fronts by Arab armies claiming to represent Palestinian interests. The reason this was done is that Ben Gurion realised that a country needs a central command that takes responsibility for all that is done by that country. "Etzel" knew no command other than its own. This is the one thing the Palestinian leaders are unwilling to do: take responsibility. They would much rather allocate blame. Especially to Israel, especially if there are so many "useful idiots" (to quote Lenin) willing to join them at it. So the Palestinians allow splinter groups to fire rockets, pretending to have no control over everyone, while simultaneously somehow managing to wipe out Fatah from their own jurisdiction. I wonder how that gets accepted by logical people, but apparently it does.

As Abba Eben said: "The Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity."

I wish they would, because there are plenty in Israel who would be willing to help them to build the state of their own dreams to mirror ours, as long as they are not mutually exclusive.

                                                                                            {"commentId":4564594,"threadId":"454192","contentId":"2249768","authorDomain":"dlachmann"}

As an American I will do everything in my power as a voter and activist to cut off aid to Israel.  This is not to say I do not wish Israel PEACE or agree with it's right to exist but it is that I also believe that Palestinians have rights.  America should not support the EXTREMIST government of Israel any more than it should support Hamas... AMERICA should seek a policy that could truly lead to Peace.. all we can do in America is not help perpetuate the Israeli occupation and by that the extremism in Palestine.
